What: The West Mill Fall Art Workshop: Painting in Provence
When: Saturday September 26 through Saturday October 10, 2009. Enjoy two week adventure with like minded artists.
Where: The art workshop will stay at The West Mill. This 18th century water mill is located between Provence and the Languedoc-Roussillon region. This area has inspired many famous artists including Cezanne and Van Gogh. The grounds include 11 acres in a national preservation area on a river with a pool and hot tub. The West Mill is located 2 km from St. Jean du Gard, a traditional French village with weekly markets on Tuesdays. The West Mill has been owned and operated for over 10 years by Falls Church, Virginia resident Kirsten Apple. She will personally plan your trip so you can explore the back-roads tourists may miss.
Who: The instructor will be Richard Ewen of Austin, Texas. Richard Ewen attended Ohio Wesleyan University where he majored in history and minored in fine art and education. In 1971 he received an MFA Degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He then moved to Los Angeles where he worked for a fine art publisher and has taught silk screen printing at Art School Center of Design in Pasadena, watercolor painting at LA Community College, and currently teaches painting at 8th Street Studios in Georgetown, Texas. He has held workshops and lectures in Los Angeles, Laguna Hills, California, and Georgetown. Since 1993 he has spent time in France in the summer painting landscapes and taking photographs he uses to make richly colorful and intricate watercolors of the reflections in the store windows of Paris. In addition to the full time instructor you also will be catered to by two local hosts. The local hosts will be Victor and Johanne, a retired couple from England who now live near the West Mill. They will prepare your daily breakfast and some lunches and dinners as well as provide guide information on the region. Additional meals will be organized at local restaurants hand-chosen for their wonderful food and ambiance.These 3 and 4-course meals will be unforgettable.
How much: The tour price: $2,700* per person, based on double room occupancy
Everything is included once you get yourself to Avignon. It is recommended to fly to Paris and take the train to Avignon.
